How to play notes on the saxophone

Each note is played on the saxophone by pressing down a combination of buttons and blowing in the horn.

The interactive saxophone fingering chart above shows which buttons to press (in red).

Good to know

  • Start by learning the fingering of Low C. From there, each time you remove a finger (from the bottom) you go up a note name: C, D, E, F, G, A, B.
  • The middle notes have the same fingerings as the low notes + the octave key.
  • Playing the lowest and highest notes can be difficult when starting out. You can start with the middle ones (for example G) then move up (or down) one note at the time.
  • One of the best ways to improve your sound is to play so called long tones: Play and hold each note for a few seconds.
  • The same fingering chart will be included in the app. You can join the app lauch waiting list for free below👇
